facebook inc said friday attcker stole name and contact detail of 29 million
users in the mass security breach disclosed by the social media network late last month.The breach facebook's worst ever,has exacerbate concerns amon users,
lawmaker and investerors that the company is not doing enough ti safegaurd data,particularly in the wake of the cambridge Analytica data scandal.Still hacker neither accessed personal messages nor finacial data and did no use facebook login's access other wesbites,all of which have been a cause for greater concern.
facebook orginally had said late september hacker stole digital login codes to take over nearly 50 millions users accounts.
The company revealed that data on 14 millions users included birth dates,employers,education
and list of friends.For 15 million users,it was restricted to just name and contact detail.
All of those could help a fraudster pose as faacebook employer or friend.They could then craft a more
sophiticated email aimed at tricking user in to providing login information on fake page or in to clicking
on an attachment that would infect their computer.
Facebook said it will send customized messages in the coming days to affected users to explain what information
the attacker accessed and how they can
protect themselves,including during suspicious email,text messages or call.
The company executive said on conference call tha facebook will not provide country-by-country breakdowns of affects users.
The hacker used automated program to movve from account to account and harvest the data quickly
we are cooperating with FBI,which activly investingating and asked us not to discuss who may be behind this attack,Facebook said on blogspot.The social network late in september did not confirm if information had actually stolen.
There not much more that facebook can do said Michael pachter,an analyst
with webbush securities.The stolen data likely to be used by the hacker so this porblem is likely persits for quite some time .
